About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

CW 1897/98 (S6), Game 6: New South Wales vs South Australia

New South Wales 9/14 vs South Australia 10/13

Sydney Cricket Ground-

18th-20th February 1898

Lineups:
New South Wales - MA Noble, VT Trumper, SE Gregory, ACK Mackenzie, H Donnan, LW Pye, HA Evers, AL Newell, A Coningham, JJ Kelly, TR McKibben

South Australia - J Darling, JJ Lyons, C Hill, JC Reedman, A Jarvis, WF Giffen, AE Evans, A Green, E Jones, V Hugo, J McKenzie

First Innings

It all boils down to this. If South Australia win, they become champions for the fourth time; if New South Wales, we have a three-way tie that is then decided on Quotient Ratings!

It did not look like the latter was very likely when new boy HA Evers led the scoring with 31 runs as the SA bowling attack was on song, dispatching their opponents in forty-one overs.

NSW 136

HA Evers 31
AE Evans 4-42; E Jones 4-44; JC Reedman 2-18

South Australia stumbled out of the blocks, losing the first two wickets for just 8 runs. Hill, Reedman, and Jarvis stayed in control and put themselves into a very strong position.

NSW 136
SA 383

A Jarvis 83; E Jones 69*; JC Reedman 66
VT Trumper 3-64; A Coningham 2-26

Second Innings

New South Wales could do nothing to stop; the relentless bowling attack of South Australia, lasting only thirty-five overs on this occassion.

NSW 136 + 104
SA 383

SE Gregory 26
E Jones 4-32; JC Reedman 2-14; V Hugo 2-18

South Australia wins by an innings and 143 runs and become the Sheffield Shield Champions 1897-1898!!

CW 1897/98 (S6), Game 5: Victoria vs South Australia

Victoria 9/14 vs South Australia 10/13

Melbourne Cricket Ground-

11th-16th February 1898

Lineups:
Victoria - CE McLeod, J Worrall, H Trumble, SA McMichael, H Graham, GHS Trott, W Bruce, JH Stuckey, JG Giller, AE Johns, W Roche

South Australia - J Darling, JJ Lyons, C Hill, JC Reedman, A Jarvis, WF Giffen, TM Drew, AE Evans, E Jones, V Hugo, J McKenzie

First Innings

Victoria could clinch their second title with a win in this match, while South Australia needs to win out here and away to New South Wales to take the Sheffield Shield.

South Australia enjoyed their start, despite the pitch staying in favour of the bowlers throughout the match. A near century from A Jarvis led the way along with WF Giffen in a 132 run partnership.

SA 339

A Jarvis 92; WF Giffen 64; JJ Lyons 59
JF Giller 3-64; W Roche 3-95

A slightly lackluster display saw Victoria fail to reach 300, with the mid-order saving them from a follow-on.

SA 339
VIC 291

W Bruce 64; JH Stuckey 58*
AE EVans 3-67; E Jones 3-94

Second Innings
South Australia kept their foot on the throats of their opponents with JC Reedman amassing a majestic score despite his supporting cast failing to stick around for long.

SA 339 + 389
VIC 291

JC Reedman 141; J Darling 79
W Roche 4-110; H Trumble 3-79

With the odds firmly stacked against Victoria on a highly degraded pitch, the near centuries of CE McLeod and GHS Trott were not enough to reach their 438 run target. A total collapse at the end of the order means that the title will not be decided until the final match of the season.

CE McLeod 97; GHS Trott 93; H Graham 49
V Hugo 6-75; E Jones 3-100

South Australia wins by 79 runs.

Victoria - W Bruce, J Worrall, CE McLeod, H Graham, GHS Trott, JF Giller, J Harry, FJ Laver, SA McMichael, W Roche, AE Johns

First Innings

Victoria put themselves into bat and looked decent at 200-5 at tea, but the loss of JF Giller (75) started a collapse at 268-6 that saw the visitors put up just three more runs for the final wickets.

VIC 271

JF Giller 75; J Worrall 47

The confident displays of J Darling and WF Giffen were enough to offset the dismal showings of half the order.

SA 431

WF Giffen 125; J Darling 111; G Giffen 65
GHS Trott 3-77

Second Innings

Victoria again looked strong through the first half of the order, but the loss of JF Giller again shook the side, although they managed to keep going for longer just with the same result.

VIC 271 + 271
SA 431

JF Giller 70; GHS Trott 59; J Worrall 54

CE McLeod 2-26; W Roche 1-34

A Look Ahead to the 1897/98 Season

New South Wales 9/14 (last year11/14)

NSW take quite the hit when batting, but in an even league this year how much will it matter?

South Australia 10/13 (10/13 last season)

SA stay where they are talent-wise, and perhaps slightly more rounded then their opponents.

Victoria 9/14 (9/12 last year)

A boost for the bowlers gives Victoria as much chance as anyone else.
