About M.E. myself and I

Eastbourne, East Sussex, United Kingdom
I have been an M.E. sufferer for a long time now, but sports replay gaming is an easy hobby for me to enjoy. Originally from Canvey Island, Essex, I was introduced to replay gaming a few years ago, leading to my first purchase: Cricket World. Most sports I share will be common, but there are some more obscure replays thrown in. Thank you for visiting and I hope you enjoy your stay. Feel free to say hello! - Chris

CW 1902/03 (S11), Game 6: South Australia vs Victoria

South Australia 9/11 vs Victoria 10/13
Adelaide Oval
27th February, 1st-3rd March 1903

Lineups:
South Australia- FT Hack, JC Reedman, C Hill, G Giffen, DRA Gehrs, N Claxton, CB Jennings, A Jarvis, HP Kirkwood, PM Newland, JPF Travers

Victoria- H Graham, PA McAlister, JH Stuckey, WW Armstrong, M Ellis, FJ Laver, EE Bean, BJ Tuckwell, JE Monfries, FB Collins, JV Saunders

First Innings
Upon inspecting the pitch and seeing tough going for batsmen throughout the match, South Australia elected to put Victoria in at the crease first. Three wickets at both the 55 and 127 run mark showed this to be a good choice, but Victoria's FB Collins doggedly held on to pass 200.

VIC 222
FB Collins 53*
G Giffen 4-63; JPF Travers 3-65

Despite losing a few players to ducks, South Australia took their good start and rolled with it. The tenth man here also reached his half-century without falling.

VIC 222
SA 317
FT Hack 81; PM Newland 57*
FB Collins 4-57; FJ Laver 3-54

Second Innings
More trouble for the away side as all confidence was drained from them by more impressive South Australian bowling. But, on a troublesome pitch, anything could happen.

VIC 222 + 183
SA 317
H Graham 63; FJ Laver 54
JPF Travers 4-51; G Giffen 3-63

The wickets just wouldn't come for Victoria and they had to live with finishing last on the year with no wins.

VIC 222 + 183
SA 317 + 89-3
JC Reedman 48*
FJ Laver 2-11

South Australia wins by seven wickets

Lineups:
New South Wales- RA Duff, VT Trumper, CW Gregory, RN Hickson, MA Noble, ACK Mackenzie, AJY Hopkins, LW Pye, JJ Kelly, WP Howell, A McBeath

Victoria- W Bruce, PA McAlister, H Graham, WW Armstrong, FJ Laver, DF Noonan, D Mailer, M Ellis, TJ Hastings, FB Collins, JV Saunders

First Innings
In the knowledge that they had to win the final two games to have a chance of winning the Shield, Victoria got off on the right foot with an opening partnership of 154. Sadly the rest of the team combined for little more than that score themselves, and would have to rely on the bowlers to keep up the pressure, but New South Wales won't feel too hard done by yet as the pitch remains in the favour of the batsman.

VIC 329
W Bruce 115; PA McAlister 80
LW Pye 5-70

The season was back on again as Victoria were able to prevent New South Wales from reaching the 300-mark with solid bowling to give them the upper hand heading into the second innings.

VIC 329
NSW 281
CW Gregory 70; VT Trumper 61
FJ Laver 3-66; FB Collins 3-76; JV Saunders 3-68

Second Innings
The wheels start to come off a little for Victoria, but they knew that more of the same from their bowlers would see them home. But is the pressure getting too much?

VIC 329 + 244
NSW 281
D Mailer 73
A McBeath 4-67; WP Howell 3-62

It may have been that pressure, or perhaps the New South Wales team is too used to winning the title now, but the home side walk away with their fourth title in as many years, and their sixth in the tournaments history. It wasn't all plain sailing when Victoria had a couple of periods where they were able to take some wickets in quick succession, but New South Wales held on.

VIC 329 + 244
NSW 281 + 293-7
VT Trumper 103; CW Gregory 54
JV Saunders 3-82

New South Wales wins by three wickets and are the 1902/03 Sheffield Shield champions!
