Big drama to start the second round off as Fidel LaBarba, the pre-tournament favourite, snaps to is DQ'd in the eleventh round for a vicious low blow. Once again the top seed looked uninspired in the ring, while Ebihara took full advantage.
The first round actually went to the Californian, but from that point on Ebihara was in full control. The impressive Japanese fighter scored his first knock down in round three, and, after nearly toppling LaBarba again in the fourth, he put him on the mat in the fifth.
There were two more heavy hits but LaBarba would stay on his feet and claim the last full round before his frustration got the better of him. Ebihara will now meet the #2 seed from Argentina: Santos Benigno Laciar.
