With neither lane holding an advantage the first round ended with Del Worsham leading the pack, six-hundredths ahead of previous round winner Bob Tasca III. Jack Beckman rounded out the qualifying spots with a precarious time of over five seconds. Some familiar names are to be found on the wrong side of luck with Robert Hight the most spectacular, spinning up his wheels and leaving the track entirely.
