The top three remain untouched but both Robert Hight and Jeff Arend move up from the wilderness and into the top six with the two fastest times of the third run. Tony Pedregon remains in seventeenth place despite taking a tenth of his previous best time and overtaking the demoted Jerry Toliver and Daniel Wilkerson.

POMONA, Calif. - SUMMIT FastNews - Results of round 2 eliminations in Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 45th annual Automobile Club of Southern California NHRA Finals:

Cruz Pedregon, who has failed to qualify in nine straight, beats out Del Worsham's fastest time by a whole 0.123 seconds. Worhsam was second fastest in this run but did not improve upon his first effort. Ashley Force-Hood and Ron Capps are third and fourth with Matt Hagan rounding out the top five, shooting up from twelfth place.

John Force and Brian Thiel are now both in the top ten and their inclusion, along with Cruz Pedregon, knock Gary Densham, Robert Hight and champion Tony Pedregon to the outside. No less than nine drivers failed to put in a time on their second run, but only two have yet to register a time at all.

Terry Sawchuk was one shot away from a fifty-seven shot shutout on Christmas Day as he was beaten for the only goal of the game with twenty-nine seconds to play. Dave Keon's nineteenth of the year came very late thanks to the Leafs' sixth powerplay of the game that saw Don Simmons claim his first shutout of the season and move Toronto into the final playoff spot above the Red Wings.  Simmons' workload was surprisingly low when you consider the absence of defenseman Carl Brewer through suspension.
