Toronto wins only their second game against the Blackhawks this season, this one carried on the back of Johnny Bower's third shutout. An even scoreless third period set up what would be a strong goaltending duel, but the deadlock was broken early in the second through Bob Nevin's (9) effort; his fourth game-winner.

The Maple Leafs had dominated the period, out-shooting Chicago 20-8, but Carl Brewer was ejected from the game and threatened to turn the game around. As it was, the home team only added another eight shots in the third period as Moose Vasko took a couple of trips to the sin bin, allowing Toronto to seal the game through Armstrong and leave the Blackhawks winless in their last four.

Terry Sawchuk is the second player to earn a shutout today, his first of the year, stopping forty Bruin shots on goal. At the other end Andre Pronovost finally scores his first points as a Red Wing, one month after his trade from Boston. He was the primary assist on both Vic Stasiuk goals for Detroit's fifth win in as many games.
