Two teams at the opposite end of the form guide meet again with the Maple Leafs winning a second consecutive game against Chicago; their fifth league win in a row.
Toronto came into the game without the suspended Carl Brewer; Eddie Shack coming in on a makeshift third defensive pairing with Red Kelly as the deck was shuffled at the blueline. And it was the defense who made things happen in the first period. Alan Stanley opening his goalscoring account early on, and Tim Horton (2) scoring on the first Leaf powerplay less than three minutes later after Dave Keon won the faceoff.
A very even, end-to-end second period saw Chicago pull within one goal on two occasions. The first was Bill Hay scoring his thirteenth of the year and, after another Toronto powerplay goal, Stan Mikita moved closer to becoming the second player in the league to score thirty goals (Camille Henry, 31).
More penalty trouble led to a third goal for Toronto with the man advantage, and they extended the lead to 5-2 fifty-two seconds later through Bill Harris' (6) second of the night. Reggie Fleming (3) pulled one back in the final minutes, but it was to late to prevent a fourth straight loss and a run of five games without a win.
