R Hull (2) scored a goal and set up Martin (3) for the game winner for Chicago after the North Stars had taken the lead through Goldsworthy (3). After their sticky start to the season Montreal make it three wins in a row, Ferguson (5) scoring the GWG on the powerplay to help fend off the Blues who registered on the board thanks to Sabourin (8).


Detroit blew a 2-1 lead after the first period after Ullman (4) put up two points, the Flyers had two goals and an assist from Rochefort (4) as he led them to victory. The Kings were blown out in Pittsburgh with Schinkel (2+1), Bathgate (2+1), Stratton (1+2) and Ingarfield (1+2) getting done. B Harris' (3) unassisted goal for Oakland was soon canceled out by the Leafs with Walton (5) grabbing four points including a hat trick.
